ST MARIA FAUSTINA KOWALSKA FEAST DAY MASS
St Maria Faustina

The Divine Mercy Prayer Group from the Parish of St Ignatius is celebrating this feast with a

Mass at St Ignatius Church
on Friday 2nd October, 6 pm.

Main Celebrant: Fr Philip Heng, SJ.

Come and join in the celebration to honour this saint that Jesus chose to bring mankind to His Divine Mercy.

St Maria Faustina Kowalska

Mary Faustina Kowalska, commonly known as Saint Faustina, born Helena Kowalska (August 25, 1905, Głogowiec, Poland then in the Russian Empire – Died October 5, 1938, Kraków, Poland) was a Polish nun, visionary, and mystic. Faustina was beatified on April 18, 1993 and canonized on April 30, 2000 by the late Pope John Paul II.

Faustina kept a diary, despite her limited literacy. The diary was later published under the title Divine Mercy in My Soul: The Diary of St. Faustina.

In her diary, Sister Faustina reported having seen Christ in Purgatory, having seen and spoken to Jesus and Mary several times. She wrote in her diary that Jesus revealed to her, her purpose: to spread the devotion of the Mercy of God. In Płock on February 22, 1931, she said that Jesus appeared as the 'King of Divine Mercy', wearing a white garment. His right hand was raised in a sign of blessing and the other was touching the garment at the breast. From beneath the garment emanated two large rays, one red, the other white. Acting upon orders she received from Christ, Faustina had a picture of this vision painted - The Divine Mercy.

Pope Benedict XVI

St John Mary Vianney

VISIT OF ST JOHN MARY VIANNEY’S STATUE

Pope Benedict XVI
has declared 19 June 2009 to 19 June 2010 as the Year for Priests. The theme for the Year for Priests is “Faithfulness of Christ, Faithfulness of Priests.” Its purpose is to encourage what the Pope calls “the yearning for spiritual perfection” in priests.

But the Year for Priests also gives lay people a special opportunity to learn more about the priesthood, to recognize and honour priests, to encourage priestly vocations.

Like our Holy Father, will you also give priests a special importance and say how much you love them, how much you want to help them to live their vocation and mission with joy and fervour?

The Vatican instructs that a plenary indulgence is being offered for all Priests and all faithful on the occasion of the Year for Priests.

To celebrate this Year of Priests,  Archbishop of Singapore Nicholas Chia has commissioned a special statue of St John Mary Vianney. The statue of St John Mary Vianney will be brought to every parish for a week. The  scheduled Tour of Statue of St John Mary Vianney  is from  19 June 2009 - 19 June 2010.

The  statue of St John Mary Vianney will visit the Parish of St Ignatius on:

Friday 25 September – Thursday 1 October (*Each Night from 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm)

Our parish programme in honour of St John Mary Vianney is as follows:
Friday 25 Sept 09
Holy Hour of Reflection, Prayer and Benediction
Monday 28 Sept 09 Life of St John Vianney
Tuesday 29 Sept 09 Vocation to the Priesthood
Wednesday 30 Sept 09 Eucharist – God’s Gift to All Peoples
