![]() 7th March 2010 We are moving into the 3rd week of Lent. It may be good to ask ourselves, “How much have I benefited and grown spiritually from the special graces of the Lenten season?” Am I one of those believers who is still “pondering” on what to do for Lent and not done much about it? One good image to ponder on throughout Lent is to “see” and “feel” in our hearts Our Lord crucified and hanging on the Cross, out of love for us. St Ignatius of Loyola would then urge us to ponder and pray on these three questions: “What have I done for Christ?”; “What am I doing for Christ?” and “What ought I do for Christ?” Concretely, we are each challenged to reflect on and re-evaluate how we: have been living, am at present living and ought to live our Catholic Christian faith. We are to do this with a heart that desires to love Our Lord more personally, and not so much from the guilt of our sins. And even as we sense our faults, failures and sinfulness, we are also to focus on the truth that it is Our Lord’s Mercy for us that He freely chose to suffer and die for us. And so, if we are intending to do or am already doing penances, making sacrifices and sharing more generously our wealth, time and talents for the good of others, then integrate them with the above questions and images of our Crucified Lord.
Yours in Christ, Fr Philip Heng, S.J.
