CELEBRATING THE SEASON OF CREATION
1 September - 4 October 2022
The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to listen and respond together to the cry of creation - the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect our common home, the oikos of God; to renew our relationship with God the creator and with creation, through celebration, conversion and commitment.
The season celebration begins on 1st September, the World Day of Prayer for Creation and ends on 4th October, the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. How do we respond to the cry of creation where the Lord calls us in our diverse contexts, in our Ministries, at work, at school and in our families ? We can do this through Prayer, Sustainability and Advocacy.

This year’s theme is, “Listen to the Voice of Creation” with the Burning Bush — “I have heard their cry….I know their suffering... Come, now! I will send you... I will be with you” (Exodus 3:1-12) as the Symbol for the Season of Creation.
“The prevalence of unnatural fires today are a sign of the devastating effects that climate change has on the most vulnerable of our planet. Creation cries out as forests crackle, animals flee, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice. On the contrary, the fire that called to Moses as he tended the flock on Mt. Horeb did not consume or destroy the bush. This flame of the Spirit revealed God’s presence. This holy fire affirmed that God heard the cries of all who suffered, and promised to be with us as we followed in faith to our deliverance from injustice” (seasonofcreation.org)
In this Season of Creation, this symbol of God’s Spirit calls us to listen to the voice of creation. “We have inherited a garden; we must not leave a desert for our children” states Pope Francis and other faith leaders who signed an urgent appeal at the Vatican at last year’s Season of Creation calling on governments to set targets at COP26…” to safeguard, restore and heal our wounded humanity and the home entrusted to our stewardship.
