Rev. Fr. Francis Alberto Irenus David, SJ
24 January 1967 – 11 September 2025

With gratitude for his life and ministry, we remember Rev. Fr. Alberto David, SJ, who returned to the Lord on 11 September 2025.

Fr. Alberto was born on 24 January 1967 in Kepayan, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and was baptized at the Church of Stella Maris, Tanjung Aru. He answered God’s call to the Society of Jesus, entering the Novitiate in Singapore on 21 April 2000.

His Jesuit formation was a testament to his intellectual curiosity and deep faith. He studied Philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University (2002-2004) and undertook his Regency at the Parish of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya, and Chapel Kurnia Kristus, Subang Jaya (2004-2006). He then pursued Theology, earning a Master of Divinity from Fujen Faculty of Theology in Taipei (2006-2010) and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) from the Milltown Institute in Dublin (2010-2012).

He was ordained to the priesthood on 31 July 2011 at the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier, Keningau, by His Lordship Bishop Cornelius Piong. He later completed his Tertianship in Kandy, Sri Lanka (2017-2018).

Fr. Alberto’s priestly ministry was marked by deep dedication and versatility. He served as:

• Assistant Parish Priest, Church of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya (2012-2015)

• Director of the Pre-Novitiate Programme, Petaling Jaya (2015-2018)

• Malaysia-Singapore Jesuit Youth and Vocations Director (2018-2021)

• Local Superior of Xavier Hall Jesuit Community, Petaling Jaya (2020-2021)

Most recently, Fr. Alberto served as the Regional Coordinator of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (PWPN) for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, and as the JCAP Coordinator for the PWPN, a role that saw him nurturing a culture of prayer and mission across the region. He also returned to his beloved parish community as Assistant Parish Priest of the Church of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya.

Fr. Alberto will be remembered for his unwavering faithfulness, his gentle spirit, and his profound commitment to his vocation as a Jesuit priest. He touched countless lives through his pastoral care, his guidance of young Jesuits, and his passion for igniting the faith of the young.

He is now welcomed into the eternal embrace of his Master, whom he served so faithfully.

May he rest in the peace of Christ.
