From Iñigo to Ignatius: Cannonball to Cave to Company

Journey into the transformative story of Iñigo López de Loyola — from wounded soldier to spiritual founder. This two-hour seminar explores the pivotal moments that shaped his conversion, the depth of his inner transformation, and the emergence of the Jesuit mission that continues to influence the world today.

 

Seminar Objectives:
 

Participants will:

  • Trace the key milestones in Iñigo’s journey, mapping his transformation from soldier to founder of the Society of Jesus.

  • Examine Ignatius’ spiritual and psychological development, considering how personal experience and historical context shaped his vocation and mission.

  • Understand the origins of Ignatian spirituality, including how his experiences at Manresa and Paris gave rise to core Jesuit principles such as discernment, companionship, and finding God in all things.

Daniel is a husband and father of two teenagers with over 20 years of experience in counselling and therapy. He previously spent more than 13 years at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, supporting paediatric patients and their families.

In his current role, he oversees counselling services at Catholic Family Life, leading a team of therapists while maintaining clinical standards and supporting pro-bono counsellors.

Fr David Garcia, OP

Fr David Garcia has been a Dominican Friar for 40 years and has served in Singapore since 2000. He lectures in Moral Theology at the Major Seminary and the Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore. A sought-after speaker, he addresses topics including family life, bioethics, and Catholic Social Teaching, helping individuals integrate faith into daily living.

 

Nicholas Gabriel Lim

Nicholas Gabriel Lim is a registered psychologist with over 20 years of experience and is also a trained lawyer. His work, informed by neuroscience, spans the charity, public, private, and academic sectors.

Currently with the Singapore University of Social Sciences, he continues clinical work while supervising psychologists. He has served on national councils including the Media Literacy Council and the National Council on Problem Gambling, and is presently on the National Council Against Drug Abuse. He also serves as a Panel Advisor to the Singapore Youth Court. Nicholas is married with three children.

 

Overview

This session supports parents in navigating complex conversations around sexuality, identity, and relationships — equipping them to engage their teens with empathy, openness, and grounded values, while fostering deeper trust and communication within the family.
